Nofollow = NoGoogleJuice
At last, Google have decided to do something about scummy comment spammers trying to get googlejuice by spamming blogs....
If you're a blogger, welcome your new friendly "nofollow" tag!
Use is easy, and you can find out more on the Google Blog page. If you use MT you'll find there's already a nofollow plugin available. If you use any other blogging tool the change you need to make is easy enough and is detailed on the Google Blog page referenced above. I expect plugins for all the other major tools are either available already or will be within a day or two.
As of the time of this post, I'm using the tag and any comments or trackbacks to any of the blogs hosted on this domain will not get googlejuice...
No doubt this won't get rid of comment spammers (oh, how we wish we could) but anything that adds to the arsenal of tools at our disposal to halt their progress can only be a good thing... At least until we are allowed by law to string them upside-down by their dangly bits...
I mean, what MUG replies to spam? Jeez...
I've been using lots of other techniques as well to stem the tide of referrer spam (which BTW, if you're a spammer, is useless as most sites DON'T LIST their referrers -- all you're doing is hacking people off by poisoning their referrer stats).
Anyway, hopefully this along with automatically closing comments on posts older than 60 days and MT-Blacklist as well as the referrer spam blocking techniques I have in place will pretty much keep these blogs free from most spam.
We'll see! :-)
I'm currenly beta testing a spam proof referal (or trackback as its sometimes known) script on my blog: An Automatic Solution to Referral/Track-Back Spam ( http://richardathome.no-ip.com/index.php?article_id=415 )
