We're still out here!

We’re still here! There’s just nothing to report on the emigration front at the moment — and if you read our other blogs at all you’ll know all has been quiet there too…

I’m sure we’ll have some news soon as we kick-start this whole process again! :)

Hi Gary and Carla

I came across your website when searching for expats in Canada, as I am soon to immigrate to Canada myself. It was great scaning through your archives, and feeling that it's not just our application that seems to have taken forever.

My husband is a Canadian citizen, I am English. We have been leaving in Shrewsbury for the last 3.5 years and Dave was offered a job back in Canada, we decided to go for it.

We sent our application to missisauga in March 2004, it took them 3 months before we heard anything, I finally got the letter asking for my passport in December, I am now awaiting the last 20 days before my passport is returned. It has been such a long process. Dave's job started last September so we have been leaving apart since then. I am now trying to sell our house before I head off to Toronto.

Good luck with you application, and don't rely on getting any information from the website, the status of our application always stated in process!

Good luck

Karen

How freaky is that?? I've just read your post Karen and thought for a minute I'd posted in my sleep or something.

I am also English, from Shrewsbury and my other half is a Canadian citizen. We emmigrated to Toronto in April 04, so haven't even been here a year yet. In one way it seems like we've been here ages - we're quite settled - but the time has also flown.

I'd never been to Canada before deciding to up and leave the UK, my other half left Toronto when he was young and hadn't been back. It was a long, scary process and I know exactly how you feel. All I can tell you is that it was well worth the wait! I love it here, particularly the surrounding area. I like Toronto too, no matter what other people say. Admittedly I'd never seen anywhere else in Canada when I came, so now I can see why other Canucks dislike it - look what they've got to compare it to. Small quaint little towns, lakes everywhere, a laid back pace to life, fanstastic scenery and friendly people. Montreal/BC/everywhere else in Canada is certainly a lot prettier than TO, but I love the fact that you can escape when you like and go and hide away in a cottage by a lake, fish, boat, jetski, or whatever takes your fancy really.

Karen, maybe we can meet up for a drink or something when you come over, even if it's just to say 'hi'. Us expats have got to stick together, you know ;) I'll drop you an email with my details.

Carla - if BC is that much nicer than TO, I don't know what you're waiting for, girl!! Oh, and you told me to watch out for Tim didn't you. Well I'm well and truly hooked on his 'Everything Bagels' with cream cheese! His Hot Chocolate's damn fine too!! ;) Hope you guys are well.

It is a big decision, and I'm sure it takes much prep (I have no experience, and can't imagine doing such a move ... however, it would be exciting, I think?!).

No need to pressure yourselves, do it at a pace that works for you!
